Physiotherapy focuses on improving gross and fine motor skills, balance and coordination, strength and endurance in a child’s everyday life. Physiotherapy tries to make the child as functional and independent as possible through specific exercises and modifications to the child’s environment. Physiotherapy is essential to ensure optimal outcomes with other interventions, such as equipment and surgery.
Conditions that are treated by a paediatric physiotherapist are:
- Cerebral Palsy
- Syndromes e.g. Trisomy 21
- Autism spectrum disorders
- Delayed motor development
- Hypotonia/Low muscle tone
- Orthopaedic conditions
Physiotherapy takes place in the clinic, at home, at school, out in the community, or a combination of all of them!
Physiotherapy sessions are geared to the specific needs of the child and goals are set in collaboration with the family. We aim to make the sessions dynamic, fun and different every time.
